Data collection (surveys) and reporting in Excel can be very beneficial when teaching in a classroom. Data Collection can not only be useful in assessing students knowledge before learning a specific subject matter, but it can also be useful when trying to reach out to parents for information you as a teacher may need in order to build a successful classroom. I specifically will probably use surveys in order to access the understanding of the students in my class before I begin to teach a lesson. I may try and see if they have any prior knowledge on a subject before I go into detail about the subject that they may already know and may not need me to go into such full detail on it. Excel can be useful when trying to send out information to parents and also when signing up to do certain things that I as the teacher may need help with. I can also use excel as an additional grade book and a place to store important information on each child. These two things will make my classr...

The flipped classroom is a way to structure a classroom that is quite different than your typical classroom. With the increase in the use of technology within our society, this is becoming a more common way to teach our students today/ With this teachers are able to post lectures on-line for their student to view while at home and when they arrive in class the next day they are instructed to complete their homework. This classroom design is not successful in every subject because lecture needs to occur within the classroom in order for students to ask questions and actively participate in discussions. With the flipped classrooms, students are able to replay lectures as often as they would like which can help with their studying practices for the tests so that they will be more successful when they are being accessed. Here are some podcasts addressing ways in which teachers are able to flip their classrooms and be successful-- https://www.mheducation.com/highered/highered/di...

Adaptive technologies are used to further the understanding that students have within a classroom. Some examples of these are; blogs, webinars, Diigo, and twitter. These technologies can not only allow students to be hands on with the information but it also allows teachers to ensure the understanding of their students by assigning assignments using these different technologies. I have used these technologies within the classroom and they were very beneficial to my understanding of specific difficult topics. With these I was able to understand and be hands on with the information that I was having difficulties understanding. Using adaptive technologies in the classroom can be a challenge in it self. Although the provide great opportunities for students, there is always that fear that a teacher plans an entire lesson using them to just start the lesson and them not work. In our day, technology is very unpredictable and can break at any minute. With more use within the classr...

My twitter experience has been interesting so far. I am really enjoying having to post on twitter for this class and also using it to learn more about education and technology uses within the classroom. I find it most beneficial to follow people who are tweeting about education and technology to not only see what they are doing within their classroom and the how they are using it but to also learn about education and technology and what I can do to better my usage of technology so that my students can benefit more from the way that I am teaching. Twitter has a lot of benefits and I feel as though it is an easy way to create a personal network with individuals that you wish to follow so that you can stay in the know when they are tweeting important and relevant information about education and their uses of technology within in    Creating a class website was defiantly a challenge within itself, but it was a fun challenge because i was able to explore and find thin...

I created a Web quest for an interactive website on the water cycle to use in an upper level elementary school class room. With this I could help my students learn the water cycle in a different way then the  initial way that I taught it within the classroom. With this web quest, students could get "into" the water cycle and understand the process better so that when asked questions on an assesment they would be able to confidently answer the question. I know that i like to learn concepts in multiple ways and this would be another way that they could use to learn and study each part of the water cycle. I feel as though this technology could really aid my teaching and my students learning when the water cycle is covered within a science lesson.

This website includes information about Mrs. Carta's Kindergarten class. Within this website there is information regarding the schedule, the calendar, academic resources, news and events, and homework. This teacher does a really good job making all of this information available to students and their families at home which allows them to stay up to date even when they aren't in class. Also i noticed that this website does a really good job of highlighting the important information and also providing helpful links to academic resources so that students can be successful in class. Dallin Elementary School Arlington, MA http://mrscartaskindergarten.weebly.com/    In the future within my classroom, I plan on using technology in many ways because it is becoming a very vital part of our society. One specific way that I intend to use in my classroom is through the programs in Microsoft office. These programs will be used to further enhance the learning that is takin...

A3 Web Evaluation Wiki

https://www.spellingcity.com/ Spelling City can be used in a second-grade classroom to assess spelling words weekly. This website gives students the opportunity to put their words on-line in an electronic list which allows students to practice the words throughout the week leading up to taking a spelling test on Friday. This website is validated by CRAAP because of the content included. Currency is when the website was created, it was created in 2008 and launched an app in 2012.   Relevance is directed toward the audience which is elementary school students and their teachers.  Web 2.0 tools are becoming very popular within todays classrooms. I feel as though most of the web 2.0 tools are very beneficial depending on how the teacher decides to incorporate them within the classroom. With this in mind I most frequently have seen wiki's, blogs, and witter used within the classroom. I feel as though blogs are one of the most affective and easiest things to incorporate into a classroom. I think it allows students to be hands on with material and write their thoughts our that are related to topics that are discussed within class. A perfect example of this is what we do for EME 2040, a blog post is due at the start of every class preparing us for the next class period by reviewing material and collecting our thoughts about these specific topics. I have not seen twitter used as much in a classroom just because there are a to more risks associated with using twitter due to the nature of twitter and the way that student tend to use it. With that in mind though I ...

Twitter is a social media outlet that I use everyday and I find that the educational resources that you can follow and retweet on twitter provide valuable information about our education system today that I was unaware of. With this, I hope that I can become more active on twitter and provide more of my thoughts on the education field and also learn more information from others in the class as well as those that I follow relating to technology in the classroom and education in general. I feel as though this assignment is useful in that we can communicate with others on a technology outlet which can show how fast valuable information can spread between individuals.    The digital divide defiantly affects students in the classroom in multiple ways. This divide can ultimately hinder a students learning and their future in their life. There are multiple ways that we can help this divide to not hinder students as much, but there will still be an affect because of the digit...

The ELA standards are very straight forward and provide an array of topics that should be taught in each grade level. I feel as though the topics that are supposed to be taught on the lower end of grade levels, I have a better understanding right now and would be able to do most of them. The topics that are listed within the upper grade levels, middle and high school, would cause me a little bit more of a problem teaching them because I don't have as good of an understanding of the more complex topics.    I hope to be teaching in a kindergarten, first, or second grade classroom one day which my students ages will be either 5,6,7,or 8. With this i hope to use lexia (a website that works on reading and writing), the Microsoft offices, and spelling city (a website used for spelling words that allows students to work on their typing and spelling). I feel as though these three technological applications can really aid my teaching to my students and allow them to learn more...

As a student I have used Microsoft word in a variety of ways. I have used it most often to write papers, but it also has served more purposes than that to me. I have used it to create resume's, calendars, and flyers. Microsoft word is one part of Microsoft Office that I feel like I have a good enough understanding to do many different things with. Specifically, I have seen my teachers use it to take notes on in front of the class and review something we have learned. I have seen them use it to create newsletters to go home to parents. I have even seen it in a pre-school setting where out teacher had us use it to create lesson plans and other things that were used in the pre-school to make it run efficiently and for us to be able to communicate with parents. Microsoft word has proven to be one of the most useful Office's that I have used growing up. Now they make Google docs which is similar but allows you and others to work on the same document at the same time w...

Students and teachers are faced with many influences when it comes to using different types of technology within the classroom. Teachers specifically are faced with different types of learners that have different backgrounds and learning abilities that can affect the type of technology that they use in the classroom to aid the students in their learning. Due to the diversity found within the classroom, not every student has access to technology outside of the classroom so they are faced with their own issues when it comes to finding access to more help that can be provided through an assigned website by the teacher. All of these factors influence the degree in which technology can be incorporated into the classrooms teachings.    A standard that is meaningful to me is included within the Teacher standards. The standard is to Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. This standard explains that a teacher should use their knowledge to incorporate technolog...

My prior experiences with technology are very limited. I never really got into using any other programs besides the ones that are accompanied with the Microsoft office software. I only ever became familiar with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. I don't have much a of a background in technology but I'm hoping that this class is able to open up my experiences and give me some new information about all of the technology out there that is accessible to me.       I hope to learn some necessary tools in this class so that I can be successful in my own classroom one day. This will hopefully allow me to use technology within the classroom to help convey messages and lessons so that my students are learning the correct material in a fun and interesting way. I hope to see all of the different types of technology that can be used within a classroom and the ways that it will enhance my teaching and my students learning.
