Blog #8

Adaptive technologies are used to further the understanding that students have within a classroom. Some examples of these are; blogs, webinars, Diigo, and twitter. These technologies can not only allow students to be hands on with the information but it also allows teachers to ensure the understanding of their students by assigning assignments using these different technologies. I have used these technologies within the classroom and they were very beneficial to my understanding of specific difficult topics. With these I was able to understand and be hands on with the information that I was having difficulties understanding. Using adaptive technologies in the classroom can be a challenge in it self. Although the provide great opportunities for students, there is always that fear that a teacher plans an entire lesson using them to just start the lesson and them not work. In our day, technology is very unpredictable and can break at any minute. With more use within the classrooms hopefully teachers will find a greater understanding of how it works.
A powerpoint may be used within the classroom of any grade level to allow the teacher to address specific topics that students may need more clarification on rather than just lecturing. A powerpoint can help a child to remember. A teacher may create a powerpoint on words that all mean the same thing. The students will then be required to memorize the words for the test at the end of the week. The powerpoint could give a definition and then the student says the word and clicks to the next slide to see if they were correct. A powerpoint could help a student to understand by providing additional information on a difficult topic that was discussed that students are having difficulties with. This would allow each student in the class to get a greater understanding of what exactly the teacher wants them to know and understand. A powerpoint could help students apply information in new situations by learning how to execute a math problem through step-by-step instructions given by the teacher to latter have to recall the steps to complete a similar problem on their own. A powerpoint could help students analyze information. A teacher could post a piece of art from a specific time in history and ask students to analyze what is going on in the picture and how the artist uses these thing to portray a specific message. A powerpoint could help students evaluate. A teacher could place a quote on the powerpoint that portrays a specific stance on an argument and could ask students to argue for or against the argument that is shown. A powerpoint could help students create their own powerpoint to teach a topic to the class. This could be an assignment that allows students to teach their peers and show their understanding.
