The flipped classroom is a way to structure a classroom that is quite different than your typical classroom. With the increase in the use of technology within our society, this is becoming a more common way to teach our students today/ With this teachers are able to post lectures on-line for their student to view while at home and when they arrive in class the next day they are instructed to complete their homework. This classroom design is not successful in every subject because lecture needs to occur within the classroom in order for students to ask questions and actively participate in discussions. With the flipped classrooms, students are able to replay lectures as often as they would like which can help with their studying practices for the tests so that they will be more successful when they are being accessed. Here are some podcasts addressing ways in which teachers are able to flip their classrooms and be successful--https://www.mheducation.com/highered/highered/discipline-detail/flipping-classroom-podcasts.html .
Open education has become a more popular way to teach students today. With this, students and teachers are more free in their learning and are able to learn all across the nation. Open education allows students to learn using the internet and being able to do this on their own time. It has also allowed teachers to incorporate technology use within the classrooms more often. With our ever-changing society and increase in technology use, the Open Classroom is becoming more common and more student and parents are choosing to use this option to learn rather than in a traditional k-12 classroom. The open classroom also allows teachers to be more hands on with their students rather than them focusing so much on the creation of their lesson plans. The open classroom also gives teachers more of a chance to be one-on-one with their students so that they can be more successful in learning within the classroom. I think that open learning is going to continue to become more popular in years to come because of the increase in technology within our society and parents wanting their children to be able to learn from all over the nation, even while traveling. Here is a website that provides more information on the Open Classroom idea and how teachers can act in such a situation. http://blog.blackboard.com/open-educational-resources-maximize-teacher-time-and-engage-students-3/
The two powerpoint assignments have given me a more of an understanding of how to use powerpoint in other ways than the typical uses. Powerpoint is a weird program to use for things other than to create your typical presentation, but it can be very beneficial when using it in the classroom because it allows instruction to be more interactive. These assignments definitely have put a different prospective in mind as to how powerpoint can be used. I find it especially helpful in more interactive lessons, like Jeopardy for a test review, because students can actively participate with the material.

  1. Open education is definitely a great opportunity for students and teachers. However, teacher and students are still responsible for choosing the best resources in an active manner. In this sense OER provides more options but it may not necessarily ease the burden.
