Blog #10

Data collection (surveys) and reporting in Excel can be very beneficial when teaching in a classroom. Data Collection can not only be useful in assessing students knowledge before learning a specific subject matter, but it can also be useful when trying to reach out to parents for information you as a teacher may need in order to build a successful classroom. I specifically will probably use surveys in order to access the understanding of the students in my class before I begin to teach a lesson. I may try and see if they have any prior knowledge on a subject before I go into detail about the subject that they may already know and may not need me to go into such full detail on it. Excel can be useful when trying to send out information to parents and also when signing up to do certain things that I as the teacher may need help with. I can also use excel as an additional grade book and a place to store important information on each child. These two things will make my classroom highly successful due to the nature that they perform in order to keep a sound classroom to make it move smoothly without things going wrong and just to keep me in order because things will get crazy.
When reviewing my classmates blogs, I find it most interesting when I am able to compare thoughts with them on the same topics. We are all given the same topics to write about but its so cool that everyone can take a different look on the topic and write different ideas that pertain to the same topic. I find it most helpful to learn from others and I think this provided me with some information about technology and its uses that I wouldn't have otherwise acquired without reading blogs that other classmates had written. I also think that we all bring something different to the table and each of them gave me something different to work with in their area of expertise which I think could really aid my success in my future classroom when I have to teach to kids that all have different areas of interest. I think by mixing things up and highlighting different subject areas using different methods will really show an increase in student's grades and overall participation in classrooms.
A technology- related skill that I would like to learn next is how to edit small video clips and create a larger video that could be shown of my students working in class so that I could show parents at open house what their children have been up to in my class. This would provide insight into my classroom so that parents would be able to understand how I teach and how they could help their students to be as successful as they can. I think this could be very beneficial because I know as a parent I would really appreciate to see what actually goes on within a classroom each day. I also feel that this gives parents another reason to appreciate you as a teacher more because they see all of the hard-work that you put in to ensure that their children are successful. I plan to achieve this goal by watching videos on how to create videos in i-movie which will hopefully allow me to have more of an understanding of how I could do this in my future classroom so that parents are able to see into the classroom on a typical day to make their children have success when learning in such an environment.
